Report an absence

Report a Student Absence

If your child is going to be absent, sick, late, or leaving school early, please let Ōtāhuhu Intermediate School know before 8:30am.

Reporting absences promptly helps us keep all students safe and ensures our attendance records are accurate.

How to report an absence

Please use one of the following options:

1. Complete the absence form Please fill out the Report a Student Absence form at the top of this page.

2. Use the Edge app / parent portal Open the Edge app or parent portal and select the absence option.

3. Call the school office Phone: 09 276 6421

When reporting an absence, please include:

  • Your child’s full name
  • Their room number or kaitiaki teacher
  • The reason for the absence
  • How long will they be absent for and the reason why

If we do not hear from you

If your child is marked absent and we have not received a message, the school will contact you by text message or phone call to confirm where your child is. This is part of our student safety process.

Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is important for student learning, wellbeing, friendships, and confidence. Every day at school helps students stay connected and make progress.

Term-time holidays

Schools are not able to approve holidays taken during term time. These absences are recorded as unjustified absences in our attendance reporting.

If your child needs to be away during term time, please complete a Student Leave of Absence Form found below and return it to the school office.

Arriving on time

Students should arrive at school on time and be ready for the day. Arriving late can make it harder for students to settle, connect with their class, and begin learning alongside their peers.

How whānau can help

Where possible, please arrange appointments outside school hours. We understand that illness, emergencies, and important family situations happen. If there are barriers affecting your child’s attendance, please contact your child’s kaitiaki teacher or the school office so we can work together to support your child.

Thank you for helping us keep our students safe, connected, and ready to learn.
